Shocker.........

So, I am an avid reader. Fair statement. Always have two or three books going. The thought of a kindle never sounded appealing, although the weight fees on airlines make me have to be quite choosy these days. Annoying. Anyhow, long story, MAC user since I was 18, coveted the ipad from a year before it came out, but to be honest, could not justify a use for it. At that price. Well, enter my papa who heard this news and surprised me with one. Amazing. I cannot pry it away from my husband, it is cool at a level even I could not have imagined, but here is the kicker. I LOVE reading on it. I know. I even wrote that in a whisper. Can't believe it. It will never replace a conventional book for me, ever, but I have to say it really is nice and I can find a place for it as well. All of you skeptics(like I was) of electronic books, have you tried it? Just curious.

Is there room for both? Do tell.....

  1. I just love holding a book in my hands and reading it! Not a big fan of electronic books .... it's not the same feeling! But I have to say that the ipad is really cool ... it's more of a toy!

  5. I don't think I could ever make the switch! I love to scribble in my books, highlight my favorite portions, dog-ear the best pages...lately, my dad has been reading some of my high school favorites, and he feels like he knows me better from having read my notes!

  7. You lucky girl. I have iPad envy! I loved my Kindle until I got my hands on a friend's iPad. But I have a MacBook Pro that's too new to dump.... So all I can do is dream.
    Cheers, jj

  8. I can understand. I have not an iPad, but an iPhone, and i like to read "newspapers" on it and listen audiobooks... But, I'm fond about "real" books... So I have two ways to read and... It's nice.

    Love your photo too ;)

  9. As a big fan of books (especially old ones) I felt guilty about reading on the ipad at first. You can't deny the convenience and practicality but I think I still prefer holding a book. So to answer your question, I think there is room for both.

  10. Yes, I'm a huge non-believer! That being said I've never tried reading on one. But something about the image of lounging on the beach with a book is so classic...you will get sand in a computer. And I stare at computer screens all day....is it really that awesome? I believe you I promise! :)

  11. Nothing replaces the joy of turning pages. Me thinks.
Ipad on the other hand, sorely tempting :P

  12. My dad got an ipad the day they came out and I happened to visit him a few days later. Very cool gadget. I think I could read on one, too. I'm glad you've found a new fun thing!

  13. My husband surprised me with an iPad a few weeks ago. I already find it indispensable. One of my favorite apps. I found for it is a note pad app, where you can actually draw on it with your finger or stylus and then save it. I use it for sketching floor plans when measuring kitchens for clients or just writing notes. Everything is then saved to that clients file to be linked later to the home computer. And yes I love to read on it!!!! And to check my favorite blogs while sitting on the deck enjoying sun.

  14. Lucky you. What a super Dad you have. I've heard nothing but good things about the iPad. I'm a BIG Apple fan and can hardly tear myself away from my MacBook Pro.
