As I browse through recent images I've saved on kitchens, it is clear to me that a trend is emerging....in my folder at least. Simple, clean lines, few upper cabinets and no fuss. But I seem to like many counter materials.

Do you have a favorite these days?

  2. I really like the looks you've chosen! Really at this point I would be happy with something slightly larger than our 4 x 5 kitchen...ok I exaggerate, maybe it's 4 x 6. hehe, it is very small. But i too love clean and modern looks such as these :)

  3. I like the storage of upper cabinets, but not how dark it makes the room. I saw in a magazine that this chef designed his cabinets to be against a window, so the back of the cabinet was glass facing outside, and then the cabinet doors were glass too. So the light outside shone right through the cabinets. They looked gorgeous!

  4. Oh, these are sooo clean and streamlined....I have a Victorian house with limed kitchen cabinets and when I see pictures like these , I want to rip it out and replace it with one of those !!!!! They are gorgeous......Have I neglected you lately ? Sorry if I have...I seem to spend all day looking at blogs and posts and commenting that , I look up from the computer and the day has gone , and then I spend all evening doing the same !!!!
    Will try harder. Promise. XXXX

  5. Jacqueline-No clue what you are talking about with the neglect. I am afraid you may have answered here for a comment from someone else-I hate when I do that!!!

  7. Those are beautiful, no doubt. Are they functional, though? I mean, who wants to dust her/his dishes because they're on shelves. Not me. And keep the little stacks looking tidy. What if your dishes aren't all the same? Where do you put the plastic cups your husband brings home from the convenience store? I definitely like how these look but unfortunately none of these would work for me.

I do, however, love a few cupboards with glass doors for storing the pretty stuff in view and still keeping it free of dust.

    Fun post!

  9. Sigh, these are all so beautiful. I would take any.single.one.

As for countertops, I love the look of concrete, anything honed such as soapstone, marble, even granite if it's simple and matte. Also, stainless steel is wonderfully simple and clean and functional, as well. But I think these would need an injection of warmth, such as a butcher block island so that they are not too industrial/institutional.

    (ps-thanks for the link love!)

I have to & MUST tell you.... I think because of this post, YOU my little one just solved my kitchen dilemma!!! I need new counter tops. I have open cabinets now. This post has made my decision to remove my open cabinets and put up thick open shelving when I get the new counters. It is so clean! This has been a bigger problem for me than you will ever know, because my little sister is a kitchen designer and agrees with nothing i want! I am doing this and I am confident with my decision no matter what all thanks to YOU!!!!

  11. I love the second kitchen. I regret a bit I didn't choose this open kitchen design for mine. I thought it would look messy, but now I love it! thanks so much for your lovely comments when I was away, darling! xo

  14. #1 makes me happy! LOVE clean lines and minimal color in a kitchen. The food and cooking should take center-stage!

  15. I'm a huge fan of open shelving too but I just can't pull it off so I'm destined to be a cabinet person. Stone counters are my current favorite. We have marble and it's way too high maintenance for me. Love your choices here.

  18. Hi g, We just finished building a 1200 square foot addition - including a new, working kitchen. The countertops we put in are a solid surface called Meganite, invented by Mr. Corian after his 'no compete' decade ended. It's awesome. I am not a granite girl. I know kitchen designers who are not granite people. I should begin to post 'after' photos of the addition next week. Please check them out!

  20. I really like cement counter tops and stainless steel shelves, though I'm sure there are some downsides to cement in a kitchen. Just love that industrial look.

  22. awesome kitchen. I have just moved into an apartment and boy do I miss a kitchen that fits more than 2 people at a time. Even just the 2 is a little crowded. I love the stainless steel look paired with the white.
