.style or vile?

It has been a while, I know, but let's do it, shall we?

What do you think of people taking the covers that come on purchased books off and recovering them in kraft paper so they do not act as a distraction, I guess, to each other, or the room where they live?

I may have to my re-cover my first daughter. She is blond, the other five of us brunette. She does not match the dining room.

  1. Oh, that was THE BEST! I can laugh at that one, because I have been a recovering offender! I recovered books in brown paper, then removed it, recovered in white paper, removed it, turned books around on the shelves so all we saw was the pager, etc. etc. GUILTY!

  2. lol. I love books recovered in white paper - I have to confess to being tempted on this one. I have a LOT of books - it helps to be able to make them part of the decor!

  3. I don't have the time to do it. Besides, I am more of a clutter bug and think the different covers add texture to a room.

  4. Girl, I think the snark runs strong in you.

  5. I admit, I've been known to arrange books by their colors. It makes finding the book you want difficult... who remembers the color? By genre or author would work better. So, if you made your daughter brunette, you might not be able to find her.

  7. No chance of judging any of these books by their covers.
This borders on vile. It's just wrong on so many fronts!

  8. I don't cover my books, but I absolutely love this idea...hmmm, parchment translucent paper would be nice too!

  9. No, no, no! I am fond of being trendy, but once one takes it to covering the books it only means one thing: one does not read the books.

  11. Hehehe! We all have to make sacrifices for design. I'm sure she understands.

  12. WRONG !!!! That is totally not the point of books. It's sort of like living a lie. Books can be very beautiful in themselves.
I've got to say VILE !!
I was wondering when Style or Vile was going to make an appearance again. I love it. XXXX

  13. Hahaha, " she doesn't match the dining room!" The four-year-old doesn't match us either. We are all dark-headed brunettes and he is a blondie. Funny how those genes work. Although, the blonde hair does look rather nice against the green dining room walls.... ;0)

As for the books, I bet you know exactly how I feel. Stupid! They are not there for decoration! They are there to enrich your soul!

  15. I would never remove the old covers as this is part of the value to a collector, however I would cover the covered book in paper. I have done this with vintage maps and it looks wonderful. Sea Witch

  18. I've never re-wrapped my books but I do take the paper jackets off and arrange them by color.

And if your daughter turns up brunette we'll know what you did this weekend :-)

    Have a great one.

  19. I think it looks pretty, but it must be annoying looking for books.
I recently reorganized... I took off all the book covers and left them off. Then I did by genre, author and country of origin.

    I feel legit now.
