.a little help, please?

Ok. So I have a narrow hallway(50 inches) with a boring wall between doors(115 inches). Bad builder brain fart as it has two doorways, odd space. I want something there but not sure what. I have some ideas. Do you? I am not robbing the bank for THIS project, but something interesting would be great. I have some images that are possible ideas, but a bit perplexed. Do I do a shelf, a console, nothing....just art?

Start talking.

Update- After a ridiculously simple suggestion from the brilliant Raina, here is a bad blackberry image. Duh. Bottles there because I did not think to move them. Sorry.

  1. Would you be open to posting a photo of the space?

  2. It could be fun to do something i.e. a copy of the blueprint of the house framed, maybe even take one of your favorite photos blow it up leave as is or have it cut so part of the photo is in indvidual frames, when put together the photo becomes whole or maybe a collection of favorite old keys or something you collect. Have fun I can't wait to see what you come up with. xo

  3. Ah narrow hallways are a pain, aren't they? Hmmm.... what about a huge framed chalkboard? You could put different messages on it - either your shopping list, or greetings to guests that come over? But in a nice, classy frame, so it makes it more elegant.

  4. I have a similar situation with a hall about the same width. I do have a 15" wide console there with a large mirror over it. It works pretty well. As far as art or whatever on the wall, I'd say one big piece as opposed to a few smaller ones, just to keep the space open, larger feeling...

Lawdy, I can't even get my own house right...don't listen to me....

  5. well... I think first of all I'd paint it all white to give a larger open space feeling. then I'd put some of my favorites photos in beautiful frames. I wouldn't put a console or any piece of furniture, not to take any space from it. hope this helps! xo

  6. i have hallway troubles, too! but your hallway is way better than mine. i think hanging framed art would be best. a van gogh would look lovely. OK, kidding about that, but some nice art would be perfect.

  8. OK, here's my crazy idea:

Buy the new Rattan Parsons table from West Elm:

    Cut it in half length-wise.

Use only two of the legs, at the front.

Attach the two pieces to the wall to look like one looooong, very shallow, console.

Have someone who is adept at such things fix the middle part up so that you can't see the joined seam.

P.S. Thanks for the "brilliant" comment. ;)

  9. My thoughts...I have the very same situation and you probably shouldn't listen to me because I've been planning on doing this for at least five years and have yet to get around to it, but I got this Graham and Brown Frames wallpaper. It's black and white with hand-drawn different frame shapes. My intention is to fill some of the frames with photos, others with small mementos perhaps, and maybe let my kids draw in a handful. As for the paper itself I want to paper a large square/rectangular section of the wall and them frame it out with a wide flat moulding painted white.

I'll send you the link to the paper. I can't seem to paste the link into my comment. I have a few of those green bottles too. Love them. In fact, they would look fabulous against the black and white graphic background.

  10. hmm...what about a collection of different-sized vintage mirrors?

i also love the way the art is displayed in the first photo. :)

  11. I think that you should listen to Raina Cox as she sounds as if she knows what she is talking about and then, above it I think you should put a big mirror. XXXX

  12. How about a long antique bench? Style it with some stacks of books.

  13. I wouldn't put anything on the floor, it will narrow the space. The color choice for the wall is great, and does not reduce the size of the hallway. I think one piece of art w/a thick frame. More than one will cut up the wall, unless that's what you want to do. Good luck and have fun!
