Do you have a formal dining room? Hands up. Ok if you do, do you use it? Still standing? Ok, do you use it more than five times a year? Last one. Does said room serve any other purpose than your five -a -year fancy days?
Do tell...

Ours is being turned into a study. My study.
ReplyDeletei do and i do. but it's also the only eating option in the house other than tv trays or on the floor next to the coffee table. and with a 5 year old it is important that we all eat together sans tv. so. yes to both questions.
ReplyDeleteYep, yep, nope. We have one and use it a good deal, but not regularly. I've toyed with the idea of turning it into a more functional space and possibly moving the dining room into the even less used "formal" living room where it would be surrounded by bookshelves and a fireplace. Not likely to happen any time soon. As you can probably imagine, I toy with a lot of ideas. ;0)
ReplyDeleteYes, I dine. I think eating should be an event with good food, those you love, perfect strangers or a good book. Sea Witch
ReplyDeleteIf I had a formal Dinning room,.. It would be lavish, with rich colors and textures, I am thinking a light purple and maybe some blueish grays,.. I would use it fora one weekly or monthly specail meal as well as an entertaing focal ponit and of course special birthdays and holidays and so on,... if I had one,....
ReplyDeleteeek, no i don't use it more than 5 times a year!!! we are seriously thinking of putting a tv in there so we use it more lol
ReplyDeleteI don't have a formal dining room...but oh how I wish I had one of these! What lovely photos.
ReplyDeleteno, we don't have a formal dinning room in our new house. we have a very informal and 'usable' space with a large table than can be used for every day meals and when we have friends for dinner. I love it!
ReplyDeleteWe have a "separate" dining room but I sure wouldn't call it formal. We are eating in there now. We have periods where I decide we need to use it. I wish I knew how to incorporate it more.
ReplyDeleteKind of, yes and no. It's a large nook/corner in an open plan living area. There is a formal dining table, though, that we rarely use for dining. It holds stuff, or just sits there looking pretty, or my husband uses it for his work space when he works from home. We also have a guest room that shares a remarkably similar fate...
ReplyDeleteahahha! well, i have a one bedroom apartment (duplex) and some areas are rather undefined. if pushed i could call it a dining room, but it really isn't fancy. but if need be i could doll it up!
ReplyDeletehope you got the doggie book ok? i hope!
I get it, you don't NEED a formal dining area. However when you don't have one it can be limiting. We eat oriental style on cushions on the floor around a low table, that just doesn't cut it for some dinner parties... Can be a bit awkward to have someone's granny over for dinner.
ReplyDeleteright now it´s filled with papers, books, paints, and i think i see a soccer ball...
ReplyDeleteYes, I have a formal dining room that is indeed quite formal and we use it every night for dinner if we are in. I love formal dining rooms, but it is of course a matter of ones lifestyle and space.
ReplyDeleteOur dining room opens into the living room, and yes, we use it all the time for formal and casual gatherings. I love to cook and entertain so it gets used A LOT.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are beautiful!
